… leaders. And I think that that’s different skill. It’s equally important, but the skill for mentors in leading is really identifying what’s just beyond someone’s reach right now as far as their abilities to do something, and then getting them a project that’s at that level so they can grow up to that next level.
And that means not doing everything yourself. It means recognizing when, “Oh, okay, I can let them struggle with that and figure that out. Even though I could show up and just fix it, it’ll be better in the long run for them to develop that skill.” And then ultimately, the most important final exam for leaders is to step aside and say, “Okay, I don’t even need to be here anymore. You can lead this now.”
メンターがリーダーシップを発揮するには、成長を促したいメンバーの能力を見極めて、少し背伸びすれば達成できるプロジェクトを与えることだという。自分で解決できるけれど一歩引いて、成長のためにメンティーに解決させる方が長期的には良いと認識する。最後にメンターは去る。
まあこれはリーダーの交代についての話だろうけれど、結局のところ経験を積ませるしかないのだろう。
